About Mud Volcano

The destination is situated in the North and Middle Andaman District of Baratang Island. Andaman Islands have several mud volcanos, out of which 09 are present in Baratang Island. They are the only active mud volcanos in the country and hence worth watching for. At first you would see tiny hole on the surface bubbling the mud that flows, but when you read about it you would be more fascinated to visit this place. To get here from Port Blair, you must travel about 100 miles. To catch the convey that departs from the Jirkatang check post, you must rise early. One must travel for around 1.5 hours to get there. Timings of arrival and departure are rigorously observed here since the convoy travels across tribally designated land. The list of dos and don'ts inside the tribal reserve area should be carefully reviewed. At the check post, there are a number of dhaba-style eateries and snack shops. The best option is to go from Port Blair early in the morning to catch the convoy and have breakfast at the checkpoint. Reaching the convoy at Middle Strait Island on the other side will take about 1.5 hours. You will then take a vehicle ferry boat to Baratang Island. The ride lasts approximately 15 minutes and costs ₹12 per person and ₹ 150 for LMV. Once you get down at Baratang Jetty you will have to travel around 40 minutes to reach to the spot.

How to reach?
