The destination is situated in the North and Middle Andaman district of Baratang Island. To get here from Port Blair, you must travel about 100 miles. Due to the fact that getting there is a unique experience in and of itself, limestone cave is one of the most popular tourist attractions on Andaman Island. To catch the convey that departs from the Jirkatang check post, you must rise early. One must travel for around 1.5 hours to get there. Timings of arrival and departure are rigorously observed here since the convoy travels across tribally designated land. The list of dos and don'ts inside the tribal reserve area should be carefully reviewed. At the check post, there are a number of dhaba-style eateries and snack shops. The best option is to go from Port Blair early in the morning to catch the convoy and have breakfast at the checkpoint. Reaching the convoy at Middle Strait Island on the other side will take about 1.5 hours. You will leave your vehicle here and go by vehicle ferry boat to Baratang Island. The ride lasts approximately 15 minutes and costs ₹12 per person. As you arrive at Baratang Jetty on the opposite side of the island, you must purchase a speed boat ticket from the counter there, which costs around ₹ 780 per person. Moreover, the jetty has a police aid booth. For speed boat rides, life jackets must be worn. While the thrill ride will travel on sea waves, splashing sea water and crossing wind, the speed boat journey to the lime stone cave is quite an interesting experience. Afterwards it will enter a mangrove forest (khadi). This location's view is also pleasing to the eye. In about 30 minutes, the trip will arrive to a stopover near a limestone cave. You must walk for around 30 minutes to get to the cave from there. The view inside the cave is really stunning since the cave walls will sparkle because of presence of minerals in lime stone. Moreover, few interesting structures such as a human spinal cord like sculpture, a giant tree etc will catch your eyes.
There are many ways to go to Baratang Island, but the best is to take a cab that has been reserved in advance. Moreover, you have the option of taking a bus from the STS bus stop, Aberdeen Bazaar, Port Blair. Remember to pre-book your ticket if you would rather take the bus because you might not be able to do so when you arrive.
The place is open for visitors on all days from 06:00 AM to 03:00 PM.
