This well-known tourist destination has a particular significance in the history of the Indian independence movement because it is thought to be the first location where Netaji Subha Chandra Bose raised the Indian flag and declared the island to be free of the British rule. A 150-foot pole has just been added to the location for raising the Indian flag. On December 30, 2018, to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the first flag raising on Indian soil, the location was officially opened.
