This is one of Port Blair's best museums. It was founded in year 1975 and is situated in the city's centre next to the Pay and Accounts office. The location is well-kept, tidy, and clean, and it displays old relics and fascinating photographs relating to the local tribes living in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Onges, Sentinelese, Jarawas, Shompens, Andamanese, and Nicobarese are the seven major tribes indigenous to these islands. The Andaman tribes are protected by a law, and often tourists are not allowed in their habitat areas or are only permitted for extremely limited visits under rare circumstances with strict permission. So, this museum is crucial for learning about them. In addition, it is a must-visit location and one of the most popular tourist locations. The location is also a convenient stop for purchasing fancy hats, beach t-shirts, and tender coconut water, all of which are available right outside the entrance gate.
The best way to get there is to take an auto rickshaw or a taxi. One could also take advantage of special tourist buses known as Go-Go, which are provided by the local administration.
The place is open to the public from 09:00 am – 01:00 pm and 01:30 pm – 4:30 pm (Monday closed).
